Local Cosmetic Dentist

Local Cosmetic Dentist | Dental bridges are a good treatment option for replacing missing teeth, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. Through closing large gaps between teeth, bridges enhance the strength of your bite and restore your smile.

And an additional bonus is the boost in self-confidence that comes along with it. Just one simple procedure performed by your local cosmetic dentist can make a tremendous difference in the way that others look at you.

The placement of a dental bridge involves placing something called a pontic, or false tooth, between the gap in your existing teeth. This improves your ability to chew and talk and helps keep your teeth from shifting, as well as better distributing bite strength. Also, you can even use porcelain material so that your dental bridge will match the color of your existing teeth.

Types of bridges include:

  • Traditional fixed
  • Cantilever
  • Maryland
  • Implant-supported
  • Composite

Placing Your Dental Bridge

Some preparation for abutment teeth will be necessary, which may include a small amount of tooth structure removal. Your local cosmetic dentist with place a dental crown on top.

Next, an impression of your teeth is taken to help manufacture the pontic, dental crowns and bridge. Before your next appointment, a temporary bridge will be provided to you.

Finally, your permanent bridge will be placed at your next appointment. Moreover, any needed adjustments will be made at that time to ensure a snug fit. Your bridge will then be cemented into place, either at that appointment or during a follow-up visit with your local cosmetic dentist.

Traditional Fixed Bridges

This type involves the cementing of two crowns over abutment teeth for supporting a pontic in between. This is a good procedure if you have two existing natural teeth on either side.

Cantilever Bridge

This type of bridge is typically used when only one natural tooth is present. Likewise, it involves the placement of a crown onto a single abutment tooth.

Maryland Bridges

In short, this type involves two abutment teeth. The pontic will be held into place using porcelain bonding or metal and resin. Maryland Bridges do not always involve tooth enamel removal. Moreover, the pontics will have metal attachments secured to abutment teeth using resin.

Implant-Supported Bridge

Increasingly popular, this type utilizes implants to secure the pontic. A dental implant is placed for each missing tooth to secure the entire bridge. In addition, a pontic can be extended using crowns supported by implants.

Composite Bridge

This type of bridge is optimal for anyone missing only one or two teeth. The pontic is secured using mental wiring and a resin bond. Lastly, a composite is used to create the tooth or teeth before placement in your mouth and bonding to the abutment teeth.
